Dog Health, Heartworm, Seizures in Dogs & More

Most people are protective and watchful of their pets and just the sound of a certain condition or disease can be quite frightful. Our dog's health is of great concern, but there is much knowledge out there on many diseases that dogs can get, plus a lot of natural and over the counter remedies. While medicines are available for heartworm, you do have to get the diagnosis first, as well as for the potentially more serious condition of seizures in your dog.

Cancer in Dog Symptoms: A few of the warning signs that cancer may be present, are:  Swelling that won't go away, sores that don't heal, weight loss, bleeding, loss of appetite, difficulty eating, offensive odor, hesitation to run around, lameness, and difficulty with breathing, or "going" or urinating.  Don't be alarmed, just visit the vet as soon as you can.

Anal Sacs: Anal sacs can be expressed by any groomer and are often done as part of that process.  An inflammation of the perineum or anus will cause swelling and an accumulation of the normal anal gland fluid, if not removed, can cause discomfort.

Dog Sicknesses: Because we are usually closely tied to our dogs, we do know what their normal behavior is.  Any abnormal behavior should be investigated, as it can be a sign of sickness or injury.  If their eyes are bright and their noses wet, and what goes in comes out, and they have a good appetite and seem happy, then dogs are likely healthy.  Just watch for any changes

Signs of Depression in Dogs: Depression in a dog can be caused by several things, and especially by the loss of a long-time companion.  If you see these signs in your dog, then have him or her evaluated by a vet:  Shaking, lack of interest in walking, hiding in a dark area, stoppage of eating and drinking.  These symptoms can be the same for humans.

Dog Shot Schedule: This is a recommended schedule:  6-8 weeks should be 1st DHLPPC, at 10-12 weeks it should be the 2nd DHLPPC and a kennel cough vaccination, at 14-16 weeks it should be the 3rd DHLPPC shot plus rabies, and after that a rabies, kennel cough and DHLPPC booster annually.
